BDMA Netball League Concludes with Thrilling Championship Finale
The Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association (BDMA) Netball League reached a dramatic conclusion this past Saturday, with Tache Diamonds Botswana securing the championship title. The event, held at the packed Bona Courts, saw Tache triumph over KGK Diamonds with an impressive 36-22 victory.
The BDMA Netball League has swiftly become one of Botswana’s most anticipated sporting events. This year’s tournament featured exceptional netball action, with the final four teams—Tache, KGK, Star Rays, and Pluczenick—competing fiercely for the top spot. Tache and KGK earned their places in the final after winning their respective morning matches, setting up a thrilling championship showdown.
With over 500 spectators in attendance, the atmosphere was charged with excitement, highlighting the league’s growing popularity. The tournament, which began on July 27th, took place at Bona Courts next to the National Stadium in Gaborone. The league was supported by DTC Botswana as the Platinum Sponsor and Village Imaging as the Gold Sponsor.
In a notable gesture of goodwill, BDMA donated P5,000 to breast cancer activist Betty Mbaembae, a highlight of the day that underscored the association’s commitment to important community causes. Additionally, on-site HIV & AIDS testing was conducted, further demonstrating BDMA’s dedication to promoting health and well-being among its members and the broader community.
The event also welcomed several distinguished guests, including Tabake Kobedi from Diamond Sorters & Valuers, Ame Amey from De Beers Business Intelligence, Bryn Williams from Bryte Insurance, and Gopikumar from Delta Capital, alongside Betty Mbaembae, the breast cancer advocate. Notably, Mrs. Botswana 2024, Oampata Faith Leroy-Mosepidi, was also in attendance, adding to the day’s prestige.
The festivities extended beyond the final whistle, with the local informal sector benefiting from vendors selling food and drinks throughout the day. The celebratory mood continued as members of the diamond cutting industry and spectators enjoyed the event’s conclusion well into the evening.
